THERMAL-XR® CASE STUDY | Thailand, SCG Packaging (SCGP), 15.45% Energy Reduction

GMG release

SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), a leading multinational packaging solutions provider in Southeast Asia, applied THERMAL-XR® graphene coating to a split-type air conditioner at its site in Thailand and measured a 15.45% reduction in energy use, translating to an estimated saving of 4,801 THB per year and a return on investment of under 2 years.

Background

Air conditioning and chiller systems are among the largest electricity users on an industrial site. Over time, condenser coils lose heat transfer efficiency, which forces compressors to work harder and increases energy consumption. At this SCGP site, the split-type air conditioner is a Carrier unit with a capacity of 25,000 BTU, and it has been in service for 8 years.

The solution: THERMAL-XR®

THERMAL-XR® is a graphene-enhanced coating from Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG), designed to deliver superior heat transfer and protection for heat exchanger coils. The coating was spray-applied to the condenser coils of the split-type air conditioner, with no change to the equipment itself.

Results

Energy use was compared before and after coating:

  • Energy savings: 15.45%
  • Annual saving: 4,801 THB per year
  • ROI: < 2 years

Takeaway

This second SCGP case shows that coating existing split-type air conditioners can deliver double-digit energy savings without replacing equipment, even on units that have been running for 8 years.
